You may remember that we recently held a competition over on our Facebook page to win a set of Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s shod with sticky Yokohama Tyres. Well, in the end, the lucky winner was Josh Thompson from Runcorn – who won the wheels for his Salsa Red VW Scirocco 2.0TSI! We caught up with Josh on the day he came down, and got some photos of the wheels and tyres being fitted to his ‘Roc.
The kit
The competition itself stated that the winner would take home a set of 18″ Pro Race 1.2s in gloss black. Hey, we like to be accurate and specific here at DT ok? 😛 It didn’t state what tyres they would win however (other than they would be Yokohama performance tyres). As you might imagine then, Josh was pretty pleased when we told him that he’d be winning a set of Yokohama’s top of the range, ultra-high performance Advan Neova AD08Rs! These things were developed specifically to be Yokohama’s fastest-ever road tyre, and when you look at the ultra-aggressive design, you can see that straight away. Not only do these things look great though, the V-tread and high performance rubber compound they’re made from means that you will experience levels of grip in wet and dry that simply defy belief.
If you’ve never driven on a set of rubber like this, then you’re seriously missing out. Try it once, and you will instantly see why tyres are so important. We mention tyres in our guide to improving car handling, but honestly try it once for yourself and you’ll be hooked! High performance tyres are just so progressive, and will let you drive with a degree of confidence that you’ve never even considered possible before!
As you can see from the photo above, Josh’s Scirocco was originally rocking Pirellis – which are certainly not bad tyres, but when compared to a no-holds barred, out and out performance tyre like the AD08R, anything is going to suffer! Tyres like this do come with a slight penalty during very wet conditions, but in the dry your car will handle like never before. Anyway, winter is what winter tyres are for!
